Formation is a life-long journey with God. Our relationship with God is established before we are born, and we learn bout it and how to deepen that relationship as we grow. Youth at Christ Church begin to learn about God when they start school with kindergarten. Sunday school continues up to eighth grade, when youth begin catechism that prepares them for Confirmation. Our high school youth group helps teenagers navigate the joys and tough questions of a growing faith and prepare them for a life-long walk with Jesus Christ.
Formation doesn’t end with Confirmation! We continue to learn and grow in the Holy Spirit at all ages. Adult Formation classes are offered throughout the year on Sunday mornings and evenings. We are currently reading a number of books on faith, hope, and care for those around us. Past books have been Short Stories by Jesus by AJ Levine, Telling the Truth by Frederick Buechner, and we’re about to start Advent by Fleming Rutledge. All are welcome.
Like Christian formation, music is for all ages at Christ Church. We have three different choirs throughout the church year: adults, junior, and cherub. We also have multiple handbell and chime choirs that perform on our high holy days. All the choirs are led and taught by talented and dedicated musicians who have been with us for many years.
Jesus Christ called on us to tend to the sick, the suffering, the poor, and the needy of any kind, and Christ Church takes this call seriously. Our outreach is local, national, and international. Much of our work revolves around food as we partner with local food pantries to feed our neighbors who are food insecure. We also support and serve on the boards of many area charities, including the ABC House, InterFaith Works, and the Samaritan Center.
