SATURDAY SERVICE

Christ Church also offers a weekend service every Saturday at 4:30 p.m.  The service will seek to attract people who do not, or do not regularly, attend worship at Christ Church, and those for whom the Sunday morning format does not work.  It will especially appeal to those who are seekers in the Christian faith, or perhaps even just spiritual seekers in general.  It is hoped that families will attend the service together, and the presence of children and young people will be acknowledged in the way the service is celebrated.

This will be a theme-based service, which is to say the readings, preaching, prayers and music will center on a particular theme for the day.  Readings will not be the same as those used on Sundays.  The service will be adaptive and experimental in order to meet the needs of those who gather.  Its overall purpose will be to help people in their journey with God, people who seek God’s presence.  It will be about faith intersecting life.  It will be a service based, as it were, on a kind of “Christianity 101”.

Because of the nature of the service and the congregation it will seek to attract, it will not normally be a service of Holy Eucharist.  It will be loosely based on the service of Evening Prayer.  It will use simple music and interactive prayers.

At the time of the writing of this article a great deal of thought has gone into the service and a worship team is in the final process of formation.

UNKNOWN 1812 SOLDIER
GRAVE SITE COMMEMORATION

What are those white numbers
in Christ Church Cemetery?

In October 2002, markers were placed beside the grave site of each veteran interred at Christ Church Cemetery.  Each marker is a square white aluminum plate set on a 4"x4" post.  Each plate bears a number corresponding to the reference number for that site in the compilation of biographies and history that comprise A Military Tour of Christ Church Cemetery.

Parishioner Chris Whyte designed and installed the markers with co-members of Fayetteville Scout Troop 152.  Chris conceived of and accomplished this effort as his Community Service Project which is a prerequisite for achieving the Rank of  Eagle Scout.

The markers are intended to be used with the Reference Table of Military Gravesites which sets forth a master list of the veterans with links to their  biographies.  It is hoped that this endeavor will help to offer a glimpse into the lives of these individuals and their service to our country and community.

The 1832 Church Relocation

Did you know the entire Church was MOVED in 1832?  The artisans of the day moved the entire Church intact and made it look easy. They say nothing was damaged.  Mr. Bowen used his own patented process.  Click here to learn more.
